Located on the North Saskatchewan River is Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, Canada. Nicknamed the "Festival City," Edmonton is known as a cultural and governmental city that hosts annual festivals and is home to North America's largest mall, the West Edmonton Mall. The first European settlement of Edmonton was in 1754; the city was incorporated in 1904 with a population of 8,350 as opposed to the city's current population of 1.1 million. The city has a rich art presence; it is home to many museums, including the 90-year-old Art Gallery of Alberta. The nightlife in Edmonton is also very rich; the city's Whyte Avenue is a popular destination for bars and clubs.
