The city of Vernon is located in the Okanagan region in British Columbia, Canada. The city was incorporated in 1892 and was first discovered by the Okanagan people before it was settled by fur traders in the 19th century. Vernon is home to many sports and art events; the city is host to the Vernon Winter Carnival, one of North America's largest winter carnivals. The city is a year-round tourist destination due to its many beaches, lakes and skiing and hockey activities.
